Light Up Your Life

If you have ever seen my apartment you know I have a love for any and all things Pottery Barn.  I can't help it, it's all so wonderful.  In fact, every time I get a new catalogue (which is more often than not) I tear pages and pages of inspiration to save.  However on the rare occasions that I actually look through those tear sheets, I realize I've cut out the same rooms over and over again.  One of the recurring items I covet is their iron and bronze chandeliers.  While these have crystal embellishments, they seem more down to earth and less fussy than the average crystal chandelier.  I love the idea of these lighting fixtures in entry ways and dining rooms or kitchen nooks.  I think it's a great way to add elegance without going over the top.

Which is your favorite?

Things I Love ... New York Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week is officially over (London starts today!) and I've loved watching almost all of the shows.  It's amazing to see all the craftsmanship designers put into their work but it's also fun to see trends start to form.  Here are just a few of the trends that caught my eye.

I was initially surprised that for spring I was seeing so many looks that were black and white.  While color did become rampant during the week, many designers still featured looks in classic black and white, whether as entire looks in each color, patterns, or styled together.

Jason Wu & Lela Rose

Marc Jacobs & Oscar de la Renta

Rachel Zoe & Michael Kors

I also started seeing lots of stripes.  Some of this was mixed in with classic Americana and some was just plain bold!

Marc Jacobs

Oscar de la Renta & Tommy Hilfiger

Michael Kors & Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti

Jenni Kayne & Kate Spade

Finally, I saw tons of lingerie influences with sheer fabrics and techniques to create sexy illusions.

Jason Wu & Jill Stuart

Cushnie et Ochs & Pamella Roland

Alexander Wang

Victoria Beckham & Reem Acra

Lips As Red As...

One of my favorite trends for fall, and life really, are red lips.  They are so bold and make such a statement.  I've always been a little leery of trying to pull off a red lip not at a black tie event, and maybe that was because I hadn't found the right red.  There are many out there and each skin tone and hair shade need something different.  But I think I finally found my red!  It's Yves Saint Laurent's Rouge Pur Couture The Mats lipstick in Rouge Rock.  After applying it, the makeup artist said I looked like Snow White.  In love!  And it's definitely something I'd like to start rocking during the daytime.  Here is some amazing inspiration for a rouge pout.

What's stopping you? Go find your red!

Back to School

Today is my first day back to school from summer vacation (I know, ridiculously late right? Thus is life at SCAD....).  So instead of a post today (I am compiling fashion week fun though!) here's a sneak at my one of my favorite things about fall: new seasons of my favorite shows!  Modern Family starts back up in two weeks and I can not wait! Here's the promo for a very big season!

Wall of Windows

If you haven't noticed, I have an affinity for breakfast nooks.  I love the idea of creating one in any kitchen simply by using a banquette.  I also love mixing the other side of the table with beautiful chairs.  This breakfast nook is complete perfection.  Not only is the seating spot on, but the wall of windows (one of which doubles as a door) is breathtaking.  I'm obsessed with these large, iron-framed windows, especially when looking out onto a beautifully lush patio.  This is the perfect spot to have breakfast and a cup of coffee with morning light peaking through.

Spinning Her Webb

All weekend I've been deep in fashion week coverage and while there are a ton of designers and looks I want to show you, I wanted to start with a new designer that I'm now completely obsessed with.  Marissa Webb spent over 10 years working at J. Crew on womenswear (so basically, she's already all over my closet) but now she has branched off to create her own line.  Her first presentation for fashion week reflect a somewhat J. Crew style, mixing feminine touches with masculine tailoring, and just about everything is gorgeous!  I can't for when Spring 2013 hits stores and find out what buyers have snatched up Webb's designs.  Here are some of my favorite looks for her new collection.

Love this vest! Also, seen lots of black leather for spring...

Seeing a lot of structured shoulders also

Obsessed!

This is so Grace Kelly/Audry Hepburn to me!

Obsessed!

Things I Love ... Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week officially got underway yesterday.  Every season I love watching footage of the shows and even more, I love seeing all the street style photography.  While the New York shows last until September 13, I'll be watching coverage for much longer.  Starting September 14-18 the fashion set move onto London, followed by Milan for September 19-24, and finally wrapping up in Paris from September 25-October 3.  Today I'm excited to see two of my favorite brands present, Kate Spade and Jason Wu.

Get ready for some of my favorite looks for the Spring 2013 season!
