Last week I saw the new Wes Anderson film, Moonrise Kingdom. Set in the 1960s in small town on the New England coast, the movie follows two twelve year olds as they decide to run away together. Frances McDormand and Bill Murray star as the young girl's parents and Edward Norton as the boy's somewhat inept scout leader all being lead in the search for the young couple by an amazingly hilarious Bruce Willis. The film is sweet and funny reminding us all how innocent and uncomplicated young love is. Like Anderson's other film's (ie. Rushmore and The Royal Tenebaums) the humor is dry and the sets and characters seem to come from a whole other world. It's one of my favorite kinds of movies, where you have to be quick to get every joke and each time you see it you find something else great about it.
Go see Moonrise Kingdom and feel the joy of being a kid again.

The Great Gatsby
As I have already explained, I am a huge movie buff. I also get excited about movies months before they're in theaters. And this is definitely one of them. The Great Gatsby.
For months already I've been keeping up with the news of Baz Luhrman's reinterpretation of the timeless classic of the same name by F. Scott Fitzgerald. From hearing that Leonardo DiCaprio would play the enigmatic Jay Gatsby to finding out that Carey Mulligan would be the coy Daisy to seeing first ever pictures from the set. But it's finally here. The Gatsby trailer.
My mom actually told me about it yesterday and I must say I've already watched it several times. I love how over the top and beautiful everything looks from the costumes to the sets to the crazy party scenes. The 1920s is truly one of my favorite eras - the prohibition, the gangsters, the flappers and the fashion. Everything involving the 20s is the stuff that great movies are made of. And Baz Luhrman in my opinion, makes great movies. He is after all the man who took Shakespeare's Romeo + Juilet and made it modern and relevant with gang violence and feuding families, without changing any of the Bard's language (although, I believe there were some edits...). And he was able to take turn of the century Paris and transform it into one of the most magical scenes against which to set the musical and tragic love story that is Moulin Rouge. From the looks of the Gatsby trailer, the film seems to have the same carefree raunch and playfulness with all of the drama and beauty.
The only thing I dislike is that I have to wait until Christmas to actually see the film in theaters. But until then I will keep watching this trailer.
Enjoy!

Great Expectations
I am a huge movie buff. I love all kinds - romance, comedy, drama, and action. And I'm really excited that this weekend What to Expect When You're Expecting is opening. Although it's a little odd that the latest all-star ensemble flick is based on the pregnancy guide of the same name, it looks like an interesting take on couples who are expecting.
I am also excited because the movie was filmed here in Atlanta. If you've seen the preview that's been airing which features "The Dude's Group" you've seen an array of funny men describing to the newbie the moments of fatherhood these men don't want to share with their wives. And it all takes place in the beautiful Piedmont Park. I'm excited to see what other landmarks I'll be able to recognize. And I'm pretty sure I'll be in store for some laughs!
Check out What to Expect When You're Expecting, in theaters Friday.
